More from domesticated Kristy
I got my clothes stuck in a washing machine yesterday.
I'm sure i'm one of the few people in this world with this rare skill.
I should add it to the list of skills along with managing to gather all the drops of water on my head which are dripping from nearby buildings.
Now how do i do?
Well I'm not sure exactly sure but somehow I've managed to jam the drum so that i can't spin it around to the opening where i can retrieve my clothes.
If someone knows how to repair this (btw its a very old Phillips whirlpool) please let me know before Monday afternoon when i will be paying someone for their advice.

Our Sauna
I cooked for the first time last night.
Made yummy pasta salad in the sauna (also referred to as the kitchen).
Cut up all the veggies on the washing machine (did i mention that in most kitchens in Hk they keep the washing machine in the kitchen). I say this like i have a choice where to cut cup things. The washine machine top is the only bench space i have in the kitchen. We also don't have hot water. So doing the dishes today will involve trips to the bathroom to get hot water.
Still it was good to cook again, i think i've missed it.
Apparently we are quite lucky we have a bigger kitchen then some people. I have no idea how one would cook in a smaller kitchen than ours, maybe purely for looks or just for reheating food. We also have a oven: a rarity for HK kitchen.
By the time i come back to Australia i will be a expert at preparing a meal with no space, in hot surroundings, and with few kitchen appliances.
No by the time i come back i will be an expert at ordering food to go.

Searching
Last night i went in search for a vegetarian restaurant in Wan Chai which was recommended by a friendly vegetarian lady (see below). The address is 428 Hennessy Road Wan Chai. Now Hennessy Road is around the corner from where i live, but i live in the next suburb and i know that Wan Chai is on the right so i hop on a tram (my first tram ride by myself) heading towards Wan Chai and within about 50 seconds of the tram taking off i realise that we are next to 400 so i get ready to hop off at the next stop which unfortuantely happens to put me about three blocks down and take me all the way down to about 290 which means i have to walk back, past 310, past 380, past 412, and all the way back to where i started at the original tram stop and have a guess what is right across the road from the tram stop?

My first full Weekend here
Friday day: I went out to lunch at a local vegetarian restaurant and was sitting there trying to decide what to order when the women on the next table turned me and said 'is this your first time at a vegetarian restaurant?". To which i replied no that i only eat vegetarian food. She then pointed to a small card which chinese charcters on it and prices. 'You can't read this can you?' she asked. She went on to explain that during 2pm to 5pm i could select options on this menu and that it was much cheaper so with her assistance i ordered enough spring rolls and wontons to feed two people all for about Australian $5. She also called two vegetarian restaurants and wrote in my filofax details (including prices) of the following vegetarian restaurants: Green Veg Restaurant and Vegi food kitchen. When i was finished eating she told the waitress to put all my left overs in a bag so that i could take home and invited me to go the library where herself and her daughter (who at this stage was starting to look embarrsed at her mum for talking to me) were going. Ahh its good to know that whether i am vegetarians tend to help out one another.
Somewhere in between i ended up getting caught out in some heavy Hong Kong rain and therefore paid way too much for a umbrella. Being significantly taller than many people in HK I was hit at least a few times in the head with their umbrellas. All part of the HK experience i suppose.
Friday night i went out to Lan Kwai Fong and met so many people, i've never got so many new contacts in my life as i did on Friday night. With so many people standing around it felt a little like New Years Eve.
Saturday i went to Chippy (what appears to be Hong Kongs only fish and chip shop) and watched a dvd at home. Saturday also marked my first week anniversary in HK: not surprisingly i survived a whole week.
Sunday i went shopping with Emily and visited the flower market where i discovered that bright blue (yes BLUE) flowers exist. Note to people out there who are thinking about buying me flowers some blue tuilps will do wonderfully. I also brought two plants for the apartment: some lucky bamboo and a shy plant. The 'shy plant' as Emily calls it closes its leaves when touched. Michael is going to come home to a completely new apartment.
On a not so positive note
Hong Kong has gone from a tropical cycline warning 1 to a warning 3, what does that mean? look here I've also heard back from my employer and apparently i need to start the working visa application all over again.
